Celebrate With Us
Party by the Peaks – April 28th, 2012
The Tennessee Aquarium will celebrate 20 wonder-filled years on the Chattanooga Riverfront on Saturday, April 28th. The Aquarium first opened with a novel focus on freshwater. A new River Giants exhibit expands upon that theme, bringing together a large collection of freshwater species that can reach almost legendary sizes in the wild. Coffee-table sized whiprays from Australia will be joined by giant pangassius catfish and a menagerie of other fish found in rivers and lakes from around the world.
The Chattanooga River Market, now in its third season on the Aquarium Plaza, will be filled with artisans and locally produced items. Street performers and live music will add to the festive atmosphere throughout the day. And, for the first time, the River Market will hold extended hours to become Chattanooga’s first night market.
The public is invited to the Aquarium’s “Party by the Peaks” that evening with a special performance by OGYA, a world music band that has had audiences on their feet at Nightfall, Riverbend and Bonnaroo.
The Aquarium will host a special after hours party inside the Aquarium from 9:00 pm until 11:00 pm. This ticketed event will support the Aquarium’s conservation and education initiatives. Guests will have a chance to go behind the scenes of the new River Giants exhibit with National Geographic Explorer Dr. Zeb Hogan and Dr. Anna George, director of the Tennessee Aquarium Conservation Institute.
