Director of Development

The Director of Development is responsible for overseeing the Aquarium’s efforts to secure philanthropic funding and for coordinating the operation of the Development and Membership Departments.  This person must have a working knowledge of all areas of development and membership support. He/she must be able to represent the Aquarium’s interests internally and within the community and assist the Board of Trustees and the President in successful fundraising.  He or she supervises the coordination of  donor events, the gift acknowledgement process, ongoing contact with donors and members, the maintenance of the member database, and the Aquarium’s planned giving program.  

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Establish annual Development and Membership department goals and objectives. 
2. Set budgets for both departments and perform other duties associated with their financial management.
3. Generate revenue that meets specific annual targets.  
4. Research and identify prospects for donations, grants and other philanthropic giving. 
5. Manage annual, capital and other fundraising campaigns.
6. Produce printed materials to support fundraising goals.
7. Manage and grow the Aquarium’s planned giving program.
8. Provide reports on development and membership activities to the President.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Serve on appropriate Aquarium-related cross-functional teams .
2. Attend various community events, luncheons, etc. as Aquarium representative.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Direct solicitation and fundraising experience 
Good judgment, tact and diplomacy, as well as strategy, planning, assessment and evaluation skills.
Ability to work with people in all segments of the community
Working knowledge of grantwriting and granting agencies relevant to Aquarium’s mission
Ability to supervise effectively
Ability to work as part of a team
Ability to effectively represent the Aquarium to potential donors

Aquarist I Position

This is an entry-level position in which the successful candidate acquires the husbandry skills necessary to become an aquarist II -- a professional, exempt position.  Duties include learning how to maintain fish and aquatic invertebrates in closed aquatic systems; gain experience in preventive health care and the identification of disease; develop a basic understanding of exhibit maintenance and development; learn all areas of the two Aquarium buildings and animal care facility needed for coverage of the aquatic animal areas.  This position is a training period in which successful completion may take from 18 to 24 months.

Educational/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in biology, ichthyology or zoology preferred
A BS degree in a related field or equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of preferred degree.

Concessions and Evening Events Manager

Oversee and supervise the IMAX and Plaza Concessions and Facility Rental operations, ensuring excellent customer service and satisfaction in product quality, delivery and special event operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Establish and maintain operational policies and procedures that ensure consistency and a safe environment  for guests, staff, caterers and contract laborers.
• Determine event details with facility rental clients and vendors, with ability to upsell add-ons and recommend options that are mutually beneficial for the client and the Aquarium.
• Ensure an excellent guest experience through staff selection, training/development, scheduling and supervision/evaluation. 
• Prepare related correspondence, work orders, billing and report data for after-hours events. 
• Maintain excellent working relationship with internal departments affected and influenced by evening events.  
• Work closely with caterers and contract laborers to ensure quality and adhesion to Aquarium guidelines and recycling efforts during events.
• Maintain appropriate levels of product inventory for concessions and facility rental, ensuring uninterrupted service. 
• Update and adjust product offerings, taking into account the cost of goods,  marketplace trends and visitor needs.
• Maintain a clean work environment and commissary ensuring high scores from Health Inspectors. 
• Maintain professional visitor- friendly signage and consistency in  product offerings. 
• Achieve or exceed revenue projections for the Food and Beverage department, including the fulfillment of pre-sold school lunches.
• Take a lead role in the implementation of the Aquarium’s fundraising event.
• Maintain working knowledge of specialized Food and Beverage hardware and software.
• Adhere to and exhibit to Food and Beverage staff the core values and service standards set forth by the Aquarium.
• Ensure and maintain company standards in cashiering procedures and accuracy.

Admissions Cashier

The Tennessee Aquarium is seeking an energetic individual to perform general cashiering/cash control duties, including reconciling cash drawers plus have the ability to upgrade Aquarium only sales to combination tickets.  Must be able to work weekends.  

Qualifications:  Two years cashiering experience; excellent sales communication skills and ability to be proactive and persuasive in terms of communicating available options and maximizing sales opportunities; excellent math skills; accurate keyboarding; computer literacy; and availability to work a flexible schedule.

Seasonal Warehouse Associate

Description: Reports to the Warehouse Manager as well as the warehouse lead.  This position consist of folding shirts/tagging, pricing merchandise at a fast pace. Stocking shelves in numeric order.  Able to use scanners to pull merchandise daily when needed.  Pack/load van and assist with daily deliveries to the Aquarium, Ocean Journey and Imax Gift Shops.  Unloading UPS, FEDEX and other freight deliveries on a daily basis. General cleaning in work area daily, pulling trash, cleaning work tables etc.  Helping with other duties as requested by different departments within the Aquarium.  Follow company policies and safety rules.    

Qualifications:  Current driver’s license and excellent driving record.  Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and be available to work between the hours of 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Mon.-Friday.  Experience in retail/warehouse a plus, but not required.
