Tennessee
Aquarium stars in internationally
released children's video
"The
Big Aquarium" takes kids behind the scenes
CHATTANOOGA,
Tenn. (Dec. 7, 1998) - Imagine cleaning a tank full of pirhana
or hand feeding a sting ray. It's all part of the day's work at
"The Big Aquarium," a new children's video that takes viewers
behind the scenes at the Tennessee Aquarium.
"The Big Aquarium" is the newest video in the award-winning Big
Adventure series created by the Little
Mammoth Media. Other videos in the series have gained international
recognition. The children's video "The Big Aircraft Carrier" won
the 1996 International Monitor Award, competing against programs
like the "Muppets" and "Wishbone."
"The Big Aquarium" follows a day in the life of the world's largest
freshwater aquarium. Curious viewers will meet the animals that
call the aquarium home and learn how they are cared for. The adventure
explains the inner workings of the aquarium - from the filters,
pumps and computers that maintain the water, to the cleaning crews
that maintain the building. Viewers will also tour the quarantine
area, a giant fish hospital where new animals are observed before
being put on exhibit.
In addition to learning about the aquarium building and the animals
that live there, viewers will also meet the people who make this
wet world work. The aquarium vet explains how he can tell when
fish are sick, and divers talk about what it is like to hand feed
sharks and sting rays.
Narrated by children, "The Big Aquarium" will interest viewers
of all ages. For example, the video explains that the floor of
the Tennessee Aquarium's Cove Forest is refrigerated to help the
live trees go through their natural dormant period. Viewers can
also learn how the alligator snapping turtle makes dinner come
to him. Bright graphics help children compare the size of different
animals, understand the way fish gills work and locate the various
bodies of water represented in the aquarium.
"The Big Aquarium" premiered Dec. 7, 1998, at the Tennessee Aquarium
and sells for $14.95. Ordering information is available in the
Aquarium and IMAX gift shops. For each video sold, $1 will be
donated to the Aquarium's Southeast Aquatic Research Institute,
which engages in environmental research to help keep our aquatic
ecosystems healthy.
Little Mammoth Media's programs have won numerous awards
including Parent's Choice Awards (considered the Oscar of children's
media), Kids First! Endorsements, Parent's Guide to Children's
Media Awards, Film Advisory Board's Award of Excellence, Oppenheimer
Toy Portfolio Platinum Award and International Monitor Awards.
