Adds 2D EVEREST to Evening Lineup CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (Feb. 26, 1998) -- Visitors to the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX® Theater will be on top of the world as they experience the thrill of EVEREST. The IMAX theater adds the blockbuster new film to its lineup with special evening presentations of the no-glasses-required 2D film beginning Saturday, March 28. After years of preparation and intense training, an expedition team set forth in May 1996 to film EVEREST, the first large-format film to scale the height of adventure on the world’s tallest mountain. On the eve of the EVEREST Expedition ascent a raging storm blew in and tragedy struck. Dozens of climbers were stranded. Visibility was measured in inches. The temperature was 100 degrees below zero. And EVEREST Expeditioners set their filming aside and began coordinating a rescue effort for climbers further up the mountain. With intrigue and compassion, people around the world sat on the edge of their seats as the tragedy and triumphant rescue unfolded on the world’s most revered mountain. Now, the magic of IMAX gives viewers the true story of the highest adventure on earth. In the wake of the deadly tragedy, an exhausted and emotionally drained ? EVEREST Expedition team completed its climb. The resulting EVEREST includes scenes of the dramatic rescue effort and features the climb of EVEREST Expeditioners. The film pays homage to the undying spirit and insatiable thirst for knowledge and adventure that brings people to the very edges of the world and the very limits of human achievement. The giant six-story screen at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX Theater allows viewers to become part of the adventure, weathering the storm, experiencing the tragedy and celebrating the triumph. The blockbuster, new large-format EVEREST film premieres at the Tennessee Aquarium March 28, and compliments the daytime 3D presentations of Into the Deep and L5: First City in Space. Special “evenings only” EVEREST presentations are Sun.-Wed. at 6 and 7 p.m., and Thurs.-Sat. at 6, 7 and 9 p.m. Double feature tickets are available Thurs.-Sat for the 7 and 9 p.m. EVEREST presentations and the 8 p.m. L5 presentation.
