Also know as Freshwater Shark or Helicopter Catfish, Walalgo have the face of a bullhead and an eel-like body. Bites strongly if handled, with its huge mouth, formidable jaws, and band of conical teeth. This fish is not deemed suitable for aquarium keeping due to its size, verocity and its feeding
needs for live fish..
CONSERVATION
Threatened due to over harvesting. In Malaysia they are bred commercially in fish farms for
food.
About This Animal
SIZE: They can grow up to 8 feet in the wild.
RANGE: South and Southeast Asia, including Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
HABITAT: Inhabits grassy margins of deep, still or slow-flowing ponds or pools with a mud or silt substrate near the banks of rivers.
DIET: Their diet in the wild consists of smaller fish, crustaceans, and mollusks. Their mouth is filled with sharp teeth that point backwards so anything entering the mouth will never leave it.
